Ancient Italian History Comes to Life at V. Sattui Winery
On October 16, 2016
Step back in time at V. Sattui Winery to celebrate the original party hosts of Ancient Italy. On Sunday, October 16th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. the Napa Valley winery will bring history to life with a visual lecture from an expert on Estruscan art and archaeology. Following the lecture, Italian Michelin Star Chef Stefano Masanti will create an Etruscan banquet offering a unique dining experience using many of the same ingredients and techniques used by the original banqueters of ancient Italy. To purchase tickets to the event, visit VSattui.com, or call 707-963-7774.
The Etruscans were an ancient civilization of people who lived in the modern-day Tuscany area of Italy, thriving from the 9th to the1st centuries BCE. Their influence on ancient Roman and European culture was profound. The Romans inherited many cultural and artistic traditions from the Etruscans, such as temple design, religious rituals, winemaking, and gathering friends and family for large, outdoor banquets.
Join us for a fascinating look at the Etruscan culture with one of the most knowledgeable experts in the field, Lisa Pieraccini. Pieraccini is the project director for the Del Chiaro Center for Ancient Italian Studies at UC Berkeley. She lived in Rome for many years where she taught and conducted research in Rome and at the Etruscan site of Cerveteri. Her research interests and publications include the consumption of food and wine (Etruscan foodways with particular interest in rituals), Etruscan funerary customs, craft connectivity, Etruscan and Roman wall painting and the reception of the Etruscans and Romans in the 18th and 19th centuries. She is co-editor of a new book series entitled Cities of the Etruscans, published by the University of Texas Press; the first book, Caere, is due out this fall.
