Chalk Hill Estate
The Iconic Wine Estate of Sonoma County
Chalk Hill Estate is a leading producer of Chardonnay in Sonoma County. Over the last four decades, Chalk Hill has built its reputation for its exceptional quality wines, vineyard management practices, garden to table culinary program and spectacular landscapes.
Chalk Hill is a 1,300+ acre estate located within the Russian River Valley Appellation. Its name comes from the white volcanic ash and rocks found on the estate. Unique topography and climactic diversity allows for both Burgundian and Bordeaux varieties to flourish here. The estate is so diverse, it was granted AVA status in 1983.
Through the years, Chalk Hill has received over 130 ratings of 90 or higher by Wine Spectator, The Wine Advocate and Wine Enthusiast. When you consider its unique estate coupled with its world class vineyard management, it’s no wonder. Chalk Hill believes in a site-driven philosophy. This means each unique vineyard plot is meticulously matched to the grape variety and clone that will express itself best.
Led by Vice President of Vineyard Operations, Mark Lingenfelder, this site-driven philosophy has been carefully perfected over the last 20+ years. In addition to their world-class vineyard practices, they are also a leader in clonal research. Mark partnered with UC Davis, creating a Chalk Hill Proprietary Clone.

Chalk Hill Wines
Year after year, Chalk Hill’s Estate wines garner high acclaims from trade and consumers alike. Their flagship wine, the Estate Chardonnay, is produced from the first vines planted on the estate using Clone 97: The Chalk Hill Clone developed with UC Davis. The Estate Chardonnay receives Malolactic Fermentation and bi-weekly bâtonnage. It is a labor-intensive wine, but the rewards are most certainly worth the hard work and attention. The 2015 vintage landed a 93 point nod from Wine Spectator in February 2018.
Their Estate lineup also includes an Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Estate Pinot Noir, and Estate Red. In addition, Chalk Hill produces single vineyard and limited production wines. These wines are made in extremely small quantities and are only available through the Chalk Hill wine club and tasting room.
