A Taste of Edna Valley History
As you drive thru the Edna Valley, with its rolling hills peppered with native trees, providing the backdrop to the rich farmland, you happen upon the landmark red barn that is home to Chamisal Vineyards. Full of history, the Chamisal property is the very first vineyard ever planted to wine grapes in the Edna Valley. Named for the native, white-flowered Chamise plant that grows on the property, a visit to the estate is an opportunity to experience first-hand a taste of California wine history and some of the area’s most acclaimed wines.
With the influence of a maritime climate and a pedigree of exceptional clonal selections, the 80-acres of planted vineyards at Chamisal are known to produce multi-layered, complex wines of great intensity, that highlight the calcareous and volcanic soils lending a fresh, balanced acidity to the deeply concentrated fruit. The philosophy at Chamisal Vineyards is straight forward, allowing the wines to reflect the natural characteristics of the renowned estate.
Sustainability is key, with great care taken to focus on utilizing environmentally friendly practices. Most of the vineyard is farmed organically, with a percentage dedicated to the advancement of biodynamic principles in the vineyard as Chamisal strives towards expanding their commitment to sustainability in the vineyard and winery.
Chamisal Vineyards Winemaker Fintan du Fresne believes in the philosophy of bringing out the natural characteristics of the estate grown fruit in the wines. Hand-harvested and produced in select, small lots in the winery, the craftsmanship and cooperage allow the wines to develop and reflect the essence of the Edna Valley, all while expressing the natural complexity, nuances and characteristics of the varietal.
A visit to the Chamisal Vineyards Tasting Room is an adventure for your palate, with an opportunity to experience five estate wines including two Chardonnays, two Pinot Noirs and a Syrah. Additional wines are available for retail, including a wine club exclusive Grenache, limited production Chardonnay and multiple library selections of Pinot Noir.
Chamisal Vineyards has three distinct wine clubs, offering guests quarterly selections of four, six or twelve-bottle shipments. The Classic Club is a perfect starter club and includes exclusive access to the Estate Patio, complimentary tasting and wine discounts. For fans seeking a more robust experience, the Rare Release Club also includes an invitation to attend exclusive Quarterly Pick-Up parties and the Annual Loyalty Party in addition to enjoying tastings at the winery’s sister properties in Northern California, Oregon and Washington.
