Vineyards & Winery
Fall is a Beautiful Time to Visit Wine Country
Founded in 1981 by Don and Rhonda Carano, Ferrari-Carano is home to award-winning wines, five acres of beautiful gardens and breathtaking vineyard views. Starting with a small, 30-acre vineyard in the late ’70s, Ferrari-Carano has grown to about 1,500 certified sustainably farmed vineyard acres on 24 ranches in six appellations. Visit the beautiful home of Ferrari-Carano wines and taste in the spectacular Italianate hospitality center, Villa Fiore, on the 70-acre Dry Creek Valley estate that’s complete with vineyards and beautiful gardens.
Wine Tasting Daily
At the winery, visitors may taste classic and limited release wines in the Villa Fiore Wine Shop, in the Enoteca located in the underground cellar, or on Il Terrazzo, the outdoor terrace overlooking the vineyards. Relax and sip at your own pace on Il Terrazzo, weather permitting, with a wine by the glass or bottle, and pick from an array of Artisan cheeses, salamis, crackers, chips, olives and nuts to accompany your wine, all available for purchase from the tasting room.
A Tasty Trio: Wine, Cheese & Chocolate Pairing
Brand new is the wine, cheese and chocolate pairing offered in the Enoteca. It’s a fun and educational tasting option that features five Ferrari-Carano cabernet sauvignons – each paired with the perfect artisan cheese and locally-made Volo chocolate, $50 per person. How it works: each cheese and chocolate has been specifically chosen to pair with each of the Cabernet wines. This combination of fine artisan cheeses and chocolates expertly complements the fruit-forward characteristics of the wines and is a tasting experience you will not soon forget. No appointment is necessary.
Free Daily Winery Tour
If you’d like an in-depth look at Ferrari-Carano, reserve your spot for the winery tour, offered daily at 10 a.m., free and by appointment. Hosted by friendly and knowledgeable staff, you will stroll through the gardens, see vineyards up close, perhaps catch one of the winemaking team or cellar crew hard at work on the crush pad or in the winery’s cellars or tank rooms, view Don and Rhonda Carano’s personal wine cellar, and visit the Enoteca and Villa Fiore tasting rooms. You will hear about Ferrari-Carano’s history – how Don and Rhonda first came to Sonoma County on a wine buying trip and just fell in love with the area. After the tour, you are invited to taste Ferrari-Carano wines at the Classic Wine Bar or in the Enoteca. Winery tours are available daily, 10 a.m., by appointment. 2015 Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley
This delicious wine comes from three ranches in Anderson Valley, Mendocino County. Aromas of cherry, raspberry, cola and a touch of toast fill the senses, followed by vibrant flavors of red fruits and pomegranate with spice notes of cinnamon, cardamom and anise. Warm notes of graham cracker and pie crust linger on the soft finish. A velvety texture and bright acidity distinguish this naturally-balanced wine that pairs perfectly with salmon, fowl and meat entrées, like beef bourguignon or rack of lamb. This year during the holidays, try this wine with an herb-roasted turkey, gravy and cranberry sauce dinner, or other dishes like a fall harvest salad with butternut squash, pumpkin seeds, pecans and greens, sweet potatoes with walnuts, bread stuffing with herbs, sage, wild rice and giblets, and even roasted goose.
