Celebrating 30 Years of Delicious History
Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards is celebrating its 30th anniversary. It is the first sparkling wine house that was established in the rolling, vine-striped hills of Carneros, a world-famous wine region that straddles Sonoma and Napa counties. The Carneros region is known for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the two primary grapes used to produce Champagne and other sparkling wines.
The history of Gloria Ferrer dates back over 600 years to Spain, where the Ferrer family was a well-established, wine-growing family.
In 1914, Friexenet, the first cava (Spanish sparkling wine) was released by Pedro and Dolores Ferrer and it quickly became the world’s largest producer of mèthode champenoise wines.
In 1982, Jose and Gloria Ferrer purchased a 160-acre cattle ranch and planted three-quarters of their new estate to Pinot Noir vines and the remaining quarter to Chardonnay. In 1986, Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards opened its doors with a new winery, designed to resemble a Catalan farmhouse.
Now, 30 years later, Gloria Ferrer encompasses 335 acres, including the 128-acre Circle Bar Ranch, and has expanded the wine portfolio to include Pinot Noir and Chardonnay estate varietal wines as a complement to the sparkling wine portfolio.
Alex Leader Creates Custom Anniversary Sparkling Wine Flute
Gloria Ferrer has an extensive collection of wine flutes. To celebrate 30 years of fine winemaking, she worked with Sonoma-based glass blower, Alex Leader, to create a special flute for this occasion. They quickly sold out of the hand-numbered, mouth-blown flutes but replicas are still available to purchase at the winery.
Gloria Ferrer Produces Exclusive Anniversary Releases
• 2013 Anniversary Rosé
The Anniversary Rosé – a wine club exclusive – is an exceptionally versatile wine and will pair with most cuisines. It is an excellent complement to spicy, Asian inspired dishes in particular; try with fresh spring rolls with a spicy sweet chili sauce. It will also pair tremendously well with barbecued pork ribs and grilled seafood. The Anniversary Rosé is an outstanding cheese wine, try it with a variety of goat cheeses alongside olives or herbed nuts.

Gloria Ferrer’s winemaker, Steven Urberg, was named 2016 Winemaker of the Year for winning the Sweepstakes/Specialty Wine award for the 2007 Royal Cuvee at the Sonoma County Harvest Fair. This is no small feat, as Sonoma County produces some of the best wines in the world and the Harvest Fair is a small, but notoriously tough and well respected wine competition.
Inspired by a centuries-old understanding of the delicate balance between earth and wine, Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards has always pursued winegrowing with a respect for each vine and for each person in their extended California family. In 2016, the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance officially deemed Gloria Ferrer as sustainable. This exacting standard encourages the implementation of systematic approaches to improving environmental practices.

The holiday menu includes crab, prawns, artichokes, potatoes, onions, corn, hotlinks, and fresh sourdough baguettes.
