Grgich Hills Estate Winery
The Legacy of an Iconic Chardonnay
To commemorate the impressive achievement made over forty years ago as the first California chardonnay to ever win at the 1976 Paris Tasting, Grgich Hills Estate celebrates this honor each year with the release of a small lot of their estate-grown chardonnay. Reserved exclusively for the winery and its club members, this wine is fresh, bright and laden with juicy flavors of crisp apple and pear showcasing a clean mouthfeel unencumbered by heavy oak. Reliant on wild yeasts for fermentation and the absence of malolactic fermentation preserves its lively acidity to yield a pleasing structure and a vibrant mix of citrus blossom, honey and roasted almonds. Drink now, or cellar for future enjoyment as it will only improve with age. The 2015 Grgich Hills Estate Paris Tasting Chardonnay was unveiled on May 5th when the winery celebrated Mike’s 95th birthday and the release of the 2015 vintage. As in prior years, this bottle carries a sales price matching Miljenko “Mike” Grgich’s age upon release—so for this vintage it’s $95.00 per bottle.
A Variety of Tasting Experiences
Offered daily from 9:30am-4:30pm in the main tasting room are several wine flights where walk-in’s are encouraged and no reservations are required. Guests can choose from tasting experiences like the Napa Valley Flight at $25 per person which offers an introduction to the Grgich Hills Estate collection with sips of current release Chardonnay, Fumé Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and more. Or the Miljenko Flight for $40 per person where tasters will savor a hand-selected lineup from Mike himself including the famed Violetta, a late harvest dessert wine made from a field blend of aromatic whites named after his daughter and now winery president, Violet Grgich. For those planning ahead, the new Seated Tasting for $50 per person (reservations required) invites guest to take a seat, relax and enjoy a intimate tasting on their beautiful patio overlooking the vineyards or in one of their private tasting rooms.
