Ledson Winery & Vineyards
A History of Land Stewardship
Since the turn of the 19th century, the Ledsons have been one of the most renowned agricultural families and land stewards of Sonoma wine country. From a history of ranching in Yosemite Valley to growing prunes, hay, walnuts and, of course, wine grapes in Sonoma Valley, the Ledson heritage is one of farming, hard work and respect for the land.
Steve Ledson envisioned Ledson winery in the heart of Kenwood where his grandparents once lived. After acquiring the land and planting his first vineyard of Merlot in 1989, Ledson winery’s first harvest was in 1993. In 1997 the inaugural vintage of 1993 Ledson Estate Merlot was released to broad critical acclaim. The winery proudly opened its doors to the public in 1999.
Today, Ledson Winery & Vineyards produces more than 50 different quality wines — up to 20 different varietals and blends from as many as 10 appellations, with many going on to score in the mid-to-high 90s in competitions, with wine reviewers, and in publications all over the world. Anthony Dias Blue calls Ledson, “One of Sonoma’s most consistently excellent producers.” Visit Ledson and you are sure to find a wine to fit your palate!

The Ledson Private Wine Tasting
The passionate wine connoisseur can be truly immersed with a private wine tasting, conducted by a knowledgeable assistant to the winemaker, personally trained by Steve Ledson. Private tastings take place in one of the six private suites or, as weather permits, outside on the veranda overlooking the vineyard. This is a premium wine tasting experience that allows you to purchase rare and award-winning wines that can’t be found anywhere else. Cheese and charcuterie plates are available to add. This is truly a wine tasting experience unlike any other!
The Ledson winemaking philosophy is that everything begins in the vineyard. It has become increasingly rare to find a person that is both an expert in viticulture and winemaking, but that is exactly what you’ll find in Steve Ledson. Steve has a sixth sense about every step in the winemaking process, and can read a grapevine just as fluently as words on a page. He most definitely believes in quality over quantity, only ever using the best grapes, preferring to drop fruit if it doesn’t meet his approval. The same can be said with a wine release. Unless it’s the best, he won’t release it, ensuring that each and every time you taste a Ledson wine, you’re tasting a wine of the highest caliber.
Beyond the Castle
Ledson’s reputation for extraordinary hospitality extends beyond the castle to the historic Sonoma Plaza with the Ledson Hotel and Zina Hyde Cunningham Winery & Vineyards, which have both become highly regarded in their own rights. The hotel was named “One of the top 100 hotels in the world,” by Conde Nast Traveler, and is home to the Zina Hyde Cunningham tasting room. You can enjoy ultra-premium Zina wines or take part in an absolutely exquisite wine and food pairing like no other. At Zina, they believe that good winemaking is the perfect balance of science and art, a communion with nature, and a lifestyle.
