Sebastiani Vineyards & Winery
Tucked away just off the Sonoma Plaza is the town’s most historic winery: Sebastiani Vineyards & Winery. With over 100 years of winemaking legacy, Sebastiani has built its reputation as a cornerstone producer. Their hospitality center is expansive and welcoming, as one of the most popular tasting destinations in all of Sonoma.
A Sonoma Tradition Since 1904
The Sebastiani’s were a pioneering family of Sonoma. Samuele Sebastiani arrived in 1895 and helped develop the Sonoma plaza, as well as the theater and residential neighborhoods. In 1904, the winery was built, thus beginning the story of this family-owned winery. For decades, Sebastiani’s trailblazing operation shaped the landscape of Sonoma wines. In fact, they were the first winery to produce a single varietal Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma County. In 2008, Bill Foley purchased the winery and wine quality has been on the rise ever since. Today, Sebastiani wines are garnering the highest scores and acclaims in its history.
Raising the Bar
Under Foley proprietorship, and winemaking overseen by David Nakaji, Sebastiani’s impressive lineup of wines are made to be food friendly, rich and approachable. Over its 114 year tenure, Sebastiani has received more high scores for their Cabernets than any other Sonoma County winery. And there’s no sign they are slowing down; Sebastiani continues to raise the bar on quality.
Sebastiani winemaker, David Nakaji, obtained his degree in Chemistry at UC Santa Barbara. He then went on to receive his PhD in Chemistry from Yale University. His track record speaks for itself, having worked harvest at world-renowned estates such as Domaine Louis Latour in Burgundy and Chateau Tahbilk in Australia. Local experience includes the much-loved V. Sattui, well-known Acacia and Beaulieu Vineyard, and highly respected Cakebread Cellars. Nakaji’s experience has given him the well-rounded understanding of a variety of growing regions and varietals.
