Tamber Bey Vineyards
Upon entering the majestic property of Tamber Bey, a quote from the Novel “Black Beauty,” by Anna Sewell, comes to mind; “We shall all have to be judged according to our works, whether they be towards man or towards beast.”
If this be true, then Tamber Bey owners Barry and Jennifer Waitte shall be blessed for life and beyond for their work of love and inspiration for man and beast at Sundance Ranch. They have left no stone unturned in this piece of Calistoga paradise. Sundance Ranch is stunning and indeed, unique, among all the wineries of the Napa Valley. It is the perfect expression of Barry and Jennifer’s combined passions; horses and wine. A winery tasting experience of which there is no other to compare, where you can savor a Deux Cheveux (two horses) Merlot and marvel at the beauty of a mare.
Barry Waitte purchased his vineyard in 1999. He named the winery, Tamber Bey, after his favorite horses, Tamborina and Bayamo. The first wines were released in 2001 and have been highly rated ever since.
Award-winning Napa Valley architect Howard Bracken’s vision of the Sundance barn with the tasting room at the center is a vision to behold. The tasting room with its large wooden beamed cathedral ceiling is breathtaking. You can feel the warmth of the colors which capture the shade of a beautiful bay horse. A horse shoe-shaped copper-top bar in the middle of the room beckons, and so does vendeur de vin a.k.a. “wine seller” Spencer Smith. “We love to listen to our guests and what excites them about wine, and enjoy helping to fine tune their palette and knowledge of wine as well. Every tour and tasting of the winery and farm is a one on one personalized visit.” This is definitely a barn with a blissful view out every door and window. Peering out the beautiful French doors is the winemaking facility. Turn slightly and through another window is a rustic landscape like a vision out of a western, with an old hay wagon filled with wine barrels. Out another, the Rolls Royce of horse stables. It is obvious these horses are well loved. “In my next lifetime I want to be a horse at Sundance Ranch!” sighs Smith.
Tamber Bey offers much more than a tasting and tour – you really get to experience the wine and property. Your wish is their command. Get up close and personal with the horses (they love humans) in the stables, or admire just their beauty while they graze out in the pasture. At Sundance Ranch, everyone is treated as a VIP. The staff works together to make sure that your visit is made just for you, and the fun they have doing it is contagious.
Tamber Bey is a true treasure. It’s easy to understand why people leave the Sundance Ranch feeling a little more relaxed, rejuvenated, and just that much more special.
