Two Moons Cellars
Wines to Sooth Body and Soul
In 2010, after living in Paso Robles for 20 years, with the earth and vines seeping into his mind and soul, John Gleason decided it was time to create his own wine. John described this beautiful area as “the sweet side of the planet,” and with a vision of crafting expressive wines, a new chapter in John’s life was about to unfold.
Following a successful career with Microsoft, the planets re-aligned for John. Seeking out his longtime friend Neil Roberts, well known viticulturist of Robert’s Vineyard Services and Clavo Cellars, John discussed collaborating in a winemaking venture. John’s vision was to create wines that would reflect, describe and compliment the human spirit in multiple ways. The name chosen mirrored that vision, when one evening John witnessed the reflection of the moon setting over the Pacific Ocean. Suddenly, a name was born: Two Moons, and the story began.
Balance in Wine and Life
The wines John wanted to produce were to be well balanced and in sync with a healthy lifestyle. Having played football back in his youth, including playing on the Dartmouth football team, John’s body had taken beatings and punishment for years. Pain and discomfort were constant companions, until John was introduced to Yoga in 2016. Talking about yoga, John will tell, “Yoga changed my life.” It was this life changing event, and the balance he found between mind, body and soul that John focused on to bring out in his wines.
John plan was to produce a line of primarily Rhone wines, food friendly, with a low alcohol content allowing them to show off characteristics of the fruit and terroir. With Neil’s connections, fruit was sourced from esteemed Westside Paso Robles vineyards, and in 2012. The initial 2010 vintage was released…ready to drink, displaying the attributes John sought, and manifesting that special “balance” John strove for.
We Will Sell No Wine Before Its Time
There is a well know saying from a late 1970s wine commercial, where Orson Wells states: “We will sell no wine before its time.” This is especially true with Two Moons’ wines. There are currently four wines on the tasting menu, representing the 2012 and 2013 vintages. However, also available are library wines dating back to the original 2010 release. John and winemaker Natalie Darr Brown are committed to release wines when they are properly aged, balanced, and ready to compliment the palate, soul and mind.
Experience the Difference – Come for Wine, AND Yoga!
Two Moons Cellars is located just north of the entrance to Tin City, so make this your first stop of the day. You will be greeted with smiles and energy, and be able to glide into your wine tasting mood as you sip the selections in the tasting area. But, that’s not all! Later this spring, Two Moons plans to offer “wine and yoga,” using a portion of the winery as a yoga studio!
Visit the Two Moons Cellars tasting room to experience the blending of wine, yoga, the balance of life plus the pleasure of wine as they combine to feed the human spirit. Yoga (and wine) may not change your life as it did John’s, but the connections you feel may well add a new dimension and quality to your life.
