A visit to V. Sattui Winery is like stepping back to an earlier, simpler time in the Napa Valley. V. Sattui Winery is one of the first wineries to re-establish in the Napa Valley. Vittorio Sattui started the winery in 1885 after emigrating from Genoa, Italy. Vittorio was forced to shut down winery operations when Prohibition went into effect, and the historic winery lay dormant until 1976, when Vittorio’s great-grandson, Dario, realized his dream of resurrecting the family business in St. Helena in the heart of the Napa Valley.
The winery and tasting rooms are housed in the historic buildings, surrounded by two large, grassy picnic areas. Dozens of picnic tables are scattered around the property, inviting visitors to stop, eat, drink and soak up the Napa Valley sunshine. Ancient oak trees, along with a variety of other local trees, provide dappled shade for the property on hot days.
