Petaluma is one of the oldest best preserved historic cities in all of California!  Downtown (as a whole) is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  A charming riverfront town, Petaluma is filled with Victorian homes and Iron Front buildings.  Darling boutiques and delicious restaurants fill in between old bookstores, cafes, and businesses.  Petaluma is a delightful place to visit as well as a place to live.  Only 32 miles from San Francisco, Petaluma is a central City for exploring 195 wineries in Sonoma County, the redwoods, Point Reyes National Seashore, Bodega Bay, and the entire north Bay area in general.

Some may consider Petaluma new to wine growing. Its history is better remembered as being the “Egg Basket of the World.” But Petaluma’s tradition of growing grapes goes back 150 years.  Over time, chicken ranches turned to dairy ranches. In recent years, Petaluma’s potential for producing premium Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah has boosted the vineyard acreage and sparked a movement for a new appellation, “Petaluma Gap.”
“The wind and the fog are the Petaluma Gap’s trademark. The “Gap” is actually a wind gap named after a coastal mountain opening that stretches east from the Pacific through the town of Petaluma and then roars south to San Pablo Bay.”    petalumagap.com
