Joullian Vineyards

Joullian Vineyards was founded in 1982 by the Joullian and Sias families of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with the goal of producing estate-crafted wines with the complexity, finesse and age ability characteristic of the finest wines of the world. Recognizing the need for estate control, the partnership soon engaged Ridge Watson, with international winemaking experience, to seek and develop the unique combination of land, vineyards and winery facilities necessary for fine wine production.
After purchasing 655 acres in the heart of the mountainous Carmel Valley Appellation, the group sought to create uniquely complex wines by densely planting a 40-acre bench with multiple clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon selected from such renowned vineyards as Sterling, 3Palms, Mt. Veeder, Lytton Springs and Ventana. Primitivo and additional pre-prohibition clones of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah were added throughout the 1990s to enhance Carmel Valley’s only Estate Zinfandel. Chardonnay, Joullian’s sole non-estate-grown wine, has been sourced from Monterey’s oldest vineyards in the cool Santa Lucia Highlands.
Due to the winery’s remote location, in 2000 a classic stone and glass tasting room opened in historic Carmel Valley Village. When Monterey and Carmel are blanketed in fog, visitors love the quaint 20 minute drive to the warmth, sun and charm of “The Village.”
The “Inner Circle” Wine Club was formed to allow Ridge and the winemaking team to create small lots of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Semillon, Muscat Hamburg and a table wine, “Retro Rouge,” as well as two single-vineyard Chardonnays, “Roger Rose” and “Sleepy Hollow.”
