Quarryhill Botanical Garden

Quarryhill is a rarity among modern botanical gardens. Almost every plant in the 25-acre site has been collected from the wild on annual expeditions to temperate Asia and is planted here in Sonoma in a similarly wild fashion, making it seem as though you have stepped out of California and into remote Asia. Trails, traditional bridges, and a seasonal stream and waterfall wind through multiple ponds of lotus and water lilies and contribute to the otherworldly feel. But more than just imparting a sense of adventure, the wild origin of these plants helps to save them from the pressures of rapid development in their native habitat, and recently Quarryhill has been ranked third in a global survey of maple collections for conservation, and ninth in a similar survey for the magnolia family. Wear your walking shoes for some hilly terrain and give yourself at least an hour for this unique family experience that will complement your food and wine journey in the Valley of the Moon.
