As the summer season approaches, Transcendence Theatre Company .is gearing up for an exciting new era under the artistic leadership of Tony Gonzalez, as founding Artistic Director Amy Miller steps into the role of creative vision director. For more than a decade, Gonzalez has been an integral part of Transcendence, working as a choreographer, creative director, and performer. Now, he takes on the role of Artistic Director, ushering in a bold and diverse blend of entertainment with renowned Broadway talent.
“It’s an exciting time for Transcendence Theatre Company, and I’m thrilled to support the incredible artists and community members who have helped shape this remarkable organization,” shares Gonzalez. “I look forward to honoring our artists, giving them a place to create authentically while inspiring and serving our community.”

 

Creating a Complete Weekend Experience

Transcendence Theatre Company’s 2024 summer season, Broadway in Sonoma, promises to be a captivating celebration of talent and creativity. The season kicks off with Summertime! (June 20–23), followed by Don’t Stop Us Now (July 25-28), Dancing in the Street (August 15-18), and The Gala: A Sentimental Journey (September 19–22). This year’s performances will take place in the magical Field of Dreams at Fazio Field in Sonoma, providing a stunning outdoor setting in the heart of downtown.
Gonzalez shares, “The mesmerizing vineyards, the heartfelt hospitality, and the vibrant arts scene make Sonoma a truly special place to create and perform, and apparently the wine is pretty good as well. I’m honored to bring Broadway’s best to this remarkable region.”
Performances will run for one weekend only, inviting audiences to immerse themselves in the vibrant Sonoma experience and pair other activities to round out the day or weekend. Fazio Field will open at 6:30 p.m. for all ticket levels, while gold-level ticket holders will have early access. Guests can enjoy artisanal wines, local beer, and other beverages before the show begins at 7:30 p.m. With Sonoma Plaza just a short walk away, visitors enjoy dinner, shopping, and world-class wine tastings before and after the show.

 

A Seasoned Transcendence Veteran

Gonzalez will make his debut as artistic director by directing and serving as associate choreographer for the season’s opening production, Summertime! (June 20–23). Joining him are the talented Monica Kapoor (Bombay Dreams, Mamma Mia!, Smash) as associate director and choreographer, and Transcendence’s music supervisor, Matt Smart (A Christmas Carol, SF Tour; Hamilton, And Peggy Tour), who will serve as the musical director and arranger.

“With Summertime!, our dynamic creative team crafted a concert that is an invigorating and theatrical celebration of Sonoma,” said Gonzalez. “Launching this season in a fantastic new location in the Field of Dreams will offer a unique transcendent experience, blending the buzz of downtown Sonoma with the magic of live performance. I’m thrilled to direct this season’s opener as we start the summer with a sunny mix of pop hits and bold Broadway favorites.”

Gonzalez’s connection with Transcendence runs deep, having been part of countless productions, serving as director, conceiver, and choreographer for favorites like Dance the Night Away, The Gala (2019), and Broadway Holiday Spectacular. He has also delivered unforgettable on-stage appearances in Transcendence productions like A Chorus Line and The Gala (2014, 2019), where his performances create an electric connection with the audience.

As Transcendence Theatre Company embarks on this new chapter, Gonzalez’s vision and expertise promise to elevate the company’s artistic excellence to new heights. With his passion for honoring artists and serving the community, Broadway in Sonoma is poised to be a captivating celebration of talent, creativity, and the joy of live performance.

A musical celebration of Sonoma ranging from Broadway’s Oklahoma!, Pippin, and Beauty and the Beast, to Top 40 and Country artists like Rascal Flatts, Sara Bareilles, Michael Bublé, and the Beatles

July 25-28 – Don’t Stop Us Now
MidAtlantic Men meet Queenz of Rock in a friendly competition of the greatest hit music from Britain and America: iconic songs from Elvis to Elton and Adele to Aerosmith

August 15-18 – Dancing in the Street
A sizzling summer block party featuring the chart-topping hits of recording artists such as Whitney Houston, Elton John, and Bruno Mars, and highlighting Motown’s timeless music

September 19-22 – The Gala: A Sentimental Journey
A tribute to classic Broadway and more, with showtunes from such classics as West Side Story, Into the Woods, Les Misérables, A Chorus Line, Cats, and Company

The Ultimate Sonoma Package

Are you ready to have the Best Day Ever AND the Best Night Ever? Transcendence has annouced the Ultimate Sonoma Experience package. Create your perfect Sonoma experience for ‘Summertime!’ or any of the upcoming shows with Pushpak!

Participants ride three-wheeled electric Pushpak vehicles through Sonoma’s wine country. Tours include: historical stops and information about Sonoma, excursions through vineyards and neighborhoods with spectacular homes, wine and cheese tastings, and stops at various points of beauty and interest.
