Castello di Amorosa

A tour of the incredible 13th century, 107 room, Tuscan style castle and winery – complete with chapel and torture chamber – is highly recommended!

The name says it all. Castello di Amorosa is a spectacular winery built with a whole lot of love from true master craftsmen and artisans from across the globe. Each one instrumental in making owner Dario Sattui’s dream of replicating a late 13th-century Tuscan-style castle come to life amongst the beautiful hills of Calistoga. With more than 121,000 feet of medieval artistry achieved over a
14-year construction period, there are eight levels and 107 rooms designed with incredible accuracy, no expense spared. The iron work for the doors, walls, hinges and light fixtures was hand-forged by Italian artisans. The mural in the Great Hall is a replica from a fresco in Siena and was hand-painted by artists flown in from Umbria. The centuries-old salvaged cobblestones near the draw bridge (yes, it is a real castle) were shipped over from Italy in hundreds of containers. The entire property is in keeping with an authentic working-castle of the day with a stable of chickens, sheep and goats running in and out of vineyard rows, ducks and geese in the moat, and a whole family of stately peacocks.
